Laparoscopic Reflux/Hiatal Hernia Repair

Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a widespread condition presenting with heartburn, regurgitation, hoarseness and pain or difficulty with swallowing food.  It is a result of dysfunction of the normal valve mechanism at the junction of the esophagus and stomach.  It is often associated with hiatal hernia of variable degree.  When the stomach is displaced into the chest it can cause nausea, vomiting, pain after eating or progressive inability to swallow food.

Laparoscopic Primary/Incisional Hernia Repair

Minimally invasive approach to a variety of primary abdominal wall hernias (ventral, umbilical, inguinal or groin hernia) has gained wide acceptance in recent years.  It allows more controlled repair of the hernia, since a defect in a strong layer of abdominal wall is more visible than with open surgery; thisallows to detect obscured multiple hernias as well as shortening the recovery.  Certainly as far as ventral incisional hernia is concerned – laparoscopic approach becomes far superior to open repair and is associated with lowest risk of recurrence and complications.

Laparoscopic Colon/Rectum Surgery

In the past decade numerous studies some of them randomized (side-to-side comparison) of laparoscopic surgery for colon diseases demonstrated benefits over open surgery in terms of decreased risk of wound complications, faster recovery and less pain, while achieving comparable functional and survival results.

Laparoscopic Gallbladder/Bile Duct Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery for gallstones/chronic cholecystitis/biliary dyskinesia and acute inflammation of the gallbladder due to gallstone disease in past twenty years became a standard of care with very few open procedures performed.  It is a gallbladder surgery that demonstrated and confirmed all the advantages of minimally invasive surgery ton the surgical community.  Almost every general surgeon is currently trained to perform this surgery.

Laparoscopic Splenectomy

Like other types of minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopic splenectomy offers benefits of faster recovery and reduced risk of incisional hernia.  It is usually done for a variety of blood disorders, cysts and tumors.
