ANDREW AVERBACH, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Welcome to Bariatric Surgery in Maryland

Our general surgery patients receive all the benefits of minimally invasive surgery with shorter recovery and decreased risks after laparoscopic surgery for variety of diseases:

  • Laparoscopic colectomy for cancer, polyps and diverticulosis
  • Laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair with Nissen fundoplication for giant diaphragmatic or hiatal hernia and/or gastro-esophageal reflux
  • Laparoscopic ventral and inguinal hernia repair which have become a state-of-the-art approach to abdominal wall hernia associated with lower rate of complications and very low recurrence rate as well as laparoscopic gastric surgery and laparoscopic splenectomy and other minimally invasive procedures.

We offer our patients two new incisionless surgical options for treatment of insufficient weight loss or recurrent obesity after gastric bypass procedure and gastroesophageal reflux disease with no or small hiatal hernia: StomaphyX and EsophyX. These endoscopic procedures performed through the mouth under anesthesia allows the reduction of the size of the gastric pouch opening (stoma), increasing restriction and facilitating early satiety.  It re-creates normal valve between the esophagus and the stomach relieving constant heartburn and decreasing or eliminating daily use of antacid medication.
