In the past decade numerous studies some of them randomised (side-to-side comparison) of laparoscopic surgery for colon diseases demonstrated benefits over open surgery in terms of decreased risk of wound complications, faster recovery and less pain while achieving comparable functional and survival results.

As always is the case with laparoscopic surgery these advantages were evident only for the group of specially trained laparoscopic surgeons. Furthermore, chances of surgery started with minimall-invasive surgery to be completed this way are inversely directly related to oncreasing BMI (presenrce of morbid obesity). Significant proportion of general and colorectal surgeons ioffering laparoscopic colectomy will be reluctant or refuse to perform the procedure in morbidly obese patients due to its difficulty.

Our practice specializes in treatment of morbidly obese patients with laparoscopic approach and has conversion rate to open procedures of 2% compared to up to 20% reported in surgical literature. Our experience with bariatric surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery alllows to offer benefits of minimally-invasive surgery to all patients.

Among indications for laparoscopic colon and rectum surgery are colon cancer, large benign polyps not amenable to removal with colonoscopy, diverticular disease and others.
