I am a general and bariatric surgeon with 28 years of experience practicing at St.Agnes Hospital since 2002. Nature of life gave me an opportunity to study art and science of surgery in both Old and New Worlds. Born in Moscow Russia, I have graduated from one of the oldest Medical Schoos - N.Pirogov State Medical school in 1979. My surgical carrer started at the Hertzen Cancer Research Institute where I grew up from intern to Senior Research Fellow and Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology with special interest in gastric surgery. In 1992 I came to the USA and became a Clinical Research Fellow at the Washington Cancer Institute at the Wasgington Hospital Center. From 1997 to 2002 I was fully trained as a general and bariatric surgeon at the St.Agnes Hospital in Baltimore and went on to practice bariatric, general and laparoscopic surgery in 2002.
With years passed and thousands of patients treated, at present our Bariatric service is recognized as "Center of Excellence" by ASBS Surgical Review Corporation. Over past 5 years I have performed over 950 laparoscopic bariatric procedures without mortality and low morbidity. We offer Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, Vertical sleeve gastrectomy and Laparoscopic gastric banding as well as revision procedures when feasible.
Besides Bariatric surgery our practice includes general, advanced laparoscopic surgery and surgical oncology.
I am frequently asked by my patients "Do you like what you do?" Short answer is"Definitely yes! Surgery is the passion of my life." Every craftsman, and surgery is a craft as much as it is science, loves his or her creation. Challenge, something others can not or do not want to do, brings a special sense of achievement. As opposed to my earlier years in surgery when I was performing surgical oncology surgery and despite your best effort nature of disease was frequently taking its toll, bariatric surgery gives a unique opportunity to make patients life better for years to come. Sometimes patient life is completely turned around and they become able to achieve something that was unthinkable before bariatric surgery. People become healthier, happier, enjoy fulfilling life, have chieldren and there is nothing more rewarding to surgeon to know that his work was a part of it.
